Hawaiian Flowers Provide Tropical Colors For Any Occasion

When you think of Hawaii, most think of arriving and hearing aloha, being welcomed with leis made from various types of Hawaiian flowers. The many colors and various styles can be beautiful and intriguing. Leis are often created from colorful types of Hawaiian Flowers such as orchids or even intermingling fragile, colorful orchids with green foliage. Maile vine is a typical choice in creating beautiful, memorable leis for many occasions. Often visitors to remember the lei that was presented to them upon arrival at any of the Island airports. These leis are traditionally bestowed upon visitors as they depart their arriving planes.

In Hawaii, an annual celebration is held in honor of King Kamehamea. The King is known as the island’s first monarch back in 1810. The celebration traditionally uses floats decorated in native types of Hawaiian flowers to remember the old empire responsible for bringing the islands under one ruler. Often commercial companies will support a celebration float for their employees in an effort to show their gratitude to the former great monarch for his work to bring peace to island dwellers along with other countries.

There are several different types of Hawaiian flowers that are native to most of the islands. Ginger and heliconia are two of the most common types. Costus offers additional vibrant colors in the floral rainbow of colorful Hawaiian flowers. The calathea flower species contains more subdued colorings. A wide variety of foliage calling home is also a frequent feature with various arrangements and types of Hawaiian flowers. You will often find some of the more miscellaneous types of Hawaiian flowers including the bird of paradise flower and beautiful varieties of Stromanthes and venusta Siam.

Shapes and Colors that are Unique to the Island’s Flora

The heliconia species is often seen as a slender flower, with then stems and blossoms. Many of these types of Hawaiian flowers take on red hues and other mixtures of brilliant colors. The beautiful blossoms are usually helix in growth, consequently, the name heliconia. You will find the foliage for this flower species can range from individual spiking greenery to fern leafs and even to a much broader type of greenery.

A ginger specie typically presents a much more bulbous bloom, but often some, such as the shell ginger, can appear just as if the ginger bulb has been sliced into much thinner leaves. These types of Hawaiian flowers have coloring that will vary, but red is typically one of the most predominant hues. A costus specie also presents with a rounded head blossom, but is usually smaller.

A calathea specie is much more like a spiked plant with very long and slender blossoms in earth tone colors. Some, particularly the calathea shakers, can bear a resemblance to a typical wheat spike. The venusta specie type of Hawaiian flowers are often more rounded with as much as two or more colors. It can even be spotted just by its similarity to button roses, only larger.
